Asia’s Largest Convention On Open Source Kicks Off This November

Here’s some exciting news for all open source enthusiasts who wish to stay ahead of the learning curve and understand how the emerging open source technologies can maximise their productivity.

The 10th edition of Open Source India 2013, Asia’s largest convention on open source, is back and all set to kick off at the NIMHANS Center in Bengaluru from November 11. It will conclude on November 13, 2013.

Open Source India (OSI) 2013 is a one-of-a-kind gathering of all things open source, where you will get an opportunity to enhance your knowledge through the information-packed sessions and workshops, understand how the current trends of open source can help you do business better, network with your peers, and more! The three-day conference-cum-expo will have tracks ranging from cloud computing and mobile app development to kernel development, Web development, open source databases and FOSS for everyone. In addition, there will be presentations by IT thought leaders, discussions and workshops, which will together provide a perfect platform for networking opportunities that could help you grow your business and reach out to your target audience. Sharing his insight on OSI 2013, Ramesh Chopra, executive chairman, the EFY Group, said, “Open Source India has played a pivotal role in celebrating the true spirit of FOSS, and it is likely that this edition will be bigger and better than the previous ones. Whether it’s software developers, IT managers and heads, CXOs, policy makers, system administrators, project managers, delivery experts, academia, government and the open source community, we hope everyone takes away something from the event.”

This mega convention will witness the presence of big names like Microsoft, VMware, Oracle, Novell and C-DAC. Eminent speakers will share their expertise and experiences with the diverse audience at this event. Mandar Naik, director-Platform Strategy at Microsoft, is happy to share his experiences about Open Source India. “This is my fourth year of participation in OSI Days and, like each year, I am very excited about listening to some of the best subject matter experts the industry has to offer over the three days of the conference. So much has changed in these four years with the emergence of devices and services powered by the cloud, and I am hoping to attend as many sessions as possible across the Kernel, Mobile Apps and Database tracks. Also, I am keen to share updates on Microsoft’s investments in some of the most exciting open source projects, starting with our contributions to the Linux kernel, integration of Linux distributions within our cloud platform, Azure, and most importantly, the opportunities for open source developers on the Windows 8 and Windows Phone Platforms. But above all, I look forward to very interesting technology conversations with a lot my friends from the open source community over a cup of coffee during the three days,” he beams.

Venkatesh Swaminathan, country manager – India/South Asia at Novell, who is all set to share his expertise at the event, says, “We are happy to be a part of Open Source India, as we have been associated with FOSS for the last 21 years. This forum will give enterprises an insight to look for alternatives in the open source domain, and help them understand how FOSS gives them the flexibility to scale their ventures.”

Rajdeep Dua, director, Developer Evangelism, VMware, who has been a part of the event earlier, shares, “The content of the event in the form of tracks is indeed enriching and in sync with the current trends. My past experience has been really good, and I eagerly look forward to the event. The best part of this event is that it provides you with networking opportunities, and you get a chance to meet people belonging to the same domain.”
